Feedback from people on the move in Burkina Faso and Niger

Together with the British Red Cross (BRC) we developed a feedback mechanism for affected populations targeted by the Action for Migrants: Route Based Assistance (AMiRA) programme in a project funded by the Department for International Development (DFID).

The AMiRA programme was implemented by the British Red Cross in collaboration with Partner and Host National Societies along major western, northern, and eastern African migratory routes.

The British Red Cross designed the feedback mechanism using a toolkit (download below) Ground Truth Solutions developed in cooperation with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). We supported the BRC in the adaptation of this mechanism, as well as strengthened the capacity of the Burkinabe and Nigerien National Societies to successfully implement it.

The mechanism had three primary goals:

  1. Adaptation: It allowed affected people to provide National Societies with systematic feedback, enabling the improvement of programming based on the perceptions of affected populations on the move.

  2. Learning: The data collected allowed the National Societies to consistently track their progress on the programme’s learning questions, focusing on issues such as how to target vulnerable populations or how to guarantee access to services along the route.

  3. Accountability: The data collected constituted a vital component of both listening to the programme’s target populations and in formal reporting, with perceptual indicators having been built into programme monitoring and reporting.

Ground Truth Solutions produced a report (below) with relevant guidance and materials that will enable affected people to provide feedback to National Societies both within and outside the AMiRA programme.
